4 Funny Films Delights Audience

More than 100 people gathered at Everyday Joe's Coffee house November 16 for the Symphony's second annual showing of hilarious silent films.

Four Funny Films included pre-talkie favorites such as Buster Keaton as well as a very early yet entertaining cartoon.

The movies were accompanied by the Mont Alto Orchestra who enhanced each movie vignette with authentic musical accompaniment.

Thirsty attendees enjoyed O'dell's beer and Yellow Tail wines as well as delicious gourmet cupcakes from Buttercream Cupcakery and freshly popped popcorn.

Four Funny Films was the third Outside the Box event the Symphony has presented. The next Outside the Box event is the French Fortnight in January.

Fort Collins Symphony kicks off new season with generous slice of Americana Pie

Fort Collins Symphony patrons were treated to an evening of works that spanned musical genres from blues to gospel and even rock, as well as the beloved and quintessentially American Appalachian Spring by Copland.

If that wasn’t enough to set listeners on their ears, two Fort Collins Symphony Association board members—John Roberts and Jane Sullivan, hid and then popped out of a giant box on sitting on the stage to announce and promote the Symphony’s concurrent and exciting Outside the Box season.

This first masterworks performance paves the way for the rest of the Symphony’s Phenomenally Yours season—so stay tuned!

The Symphony’s Ice Cream Social was a Sweet Event

About 200 people made their way to Library park in downtown Fort Collins on September 15 to eat delicious gourmet ice cream, cupcakes and to sit in the park as the Symphony’s polka trio played tunes one might hear in a park in Vienna on a beautiful fall afternoon.

For the youngest attendees Philomusica, the European music school, had an instrumental ‘petting zoo’ set up, allowing children to try out a tiny drum set, violin, keyboard and much more. Children were also treated to face painting.

The Ice Cream Social was the first of the Fort Collins Symphony’s Outside theBox series—ten exciting new, cutting-edge events designed to reach out to broader audiences.

Special thanks to sponsor Heather Myers of Waddell & Reed, Gunter and Nicolette Bischof of Philomusica, Kilwins and Butter Cream Cupcakery. Thanks also to Kayla Fischer and Sierra Tamkun who did the face painting.

Thumbs Up to the FCS!

Kudos to the Fort Collins Symphony, the Opera Fort Collins Chorus, the Centennial Children's Choir, and Timberline Church and their incredible videographers for a most spectacular pops concert. The symphony, always excellent, was at its very best, the choirs added a great touch to the special selections, and the videography team did a spectacular job. The venue, Timberline Church, was perfect for this symphonic, choral, and multimedia extravaganza. This writer is more of a classicist as far as the symphony is concerned, but everyone involved in this pops performance outdid themselves and made 14 April 2012 a night to remember.

A Tribute to John Williams— An ‘Out of this World’ Evening!

The Fort Collins Symphony presented A Tribute to John Williams, to a packed house on April 14th at Timberline Church.

The orchestra wowed the audience with this prolific composer's catalog of well-known works including music from films such as "Star Wars," "E.T.," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," and "Schindler's List." Audience members, some of whom were dressed as their favorite Star Wars or other movie character, were transported to another galaxy by the spectacular sights and sounds of the Symphony in combination with the video on the two giant screens on either side of the stage.

Maestro Kenny and three other vocal performers capped off the evening with a whimsical four-part vocal performance.

Symphony patrons also had the opportunity to bid on original fine art produced by young local artists. These unique pieces were purchased through a silent auction and went home with lucky program attendees. Proceeds from the silent auction benefit the Symphony's ongoing commitment to education.

This annual pops concert was one of the best-attended and most successful in recent history. This one will be hard to top, but the FCS always loves a challenge!

This performance also gave Symphony patrons their first glimpse of the Sound of Color-Take Five works of art, which were on display in the lobby for easy viewing. For more information on Sound of Color, visit fcsymphony.org
